Dry stone

In 2018, the art of dry stone walling, knowledge and techniques in Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland were inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This achievement marks the international recognition of an ancient art that forms part of the culture, history and landscape of the Valencian region, passed down through the generations to the present day.

The Valencian Department of Education, Culture and Sport has set in motion various initiatives to further investigate and catalogue this rich heritage, including specific inventories for Assets of Local Relevance (ALR) and Assets of Cultural Interest (ACI) constructed using the dry stone technique.

This website provides a platform to publicise and raise awareness of the dry stone heritage in the Valencian region through inventories cataloguing these assets, publications, educational resources, a glossary, current news and external links.
